Yerba Mate Tea
Yerba Mate (pronounced "Mah-tay") is a naturally-caffeinated herbal tea from South America. Many are not aware that plants beyond those that produce coffee and tea can be sources of caffeine! In this case, Yerba Mate is slightly more caffeine-rich than even coffee. Yerba Mate was first used as a beverage by the Guarani and Tupi people of Paraguay, long before the arrival of Europeans. Called ka'a in the Guarani language, Yerba Mate is made by soaking the dried leaves of the Mate plant (Ilex paraguariensis) in hot water, and then sipping the liquid through a metal straw known as a bombilla. Authentic mate drinkers brew their drink in a hollowed-out calabash gourd that is also called a mate! Let us help you enjoy the full experience, gourd plus bombilla plus yerba mate tea! We carry them all.
